Recent discussions about 36 weekers reminded me of a great
comparison that someone posted a while back. (Please speak up and
take credit!) When talking to parents of an early baby that is
being treated like term, I tell them that it is like being asked to
take the final exam for a course that still has a month of classes
left. Some answers may come easily and some you may be able to
deduce based on what you have learned so far, but that even if you
manage to pass the exam, it will be far more difficult and stressful
than if you had had the full time to absorb the material. When I
say this to parents, I almost always get that "Aha" look from them.
So, thanks to whoever it was that came up with this analogy.
