Ann, this case sounds similar to a dear friend of mine's daughter, who lost
wt b/w 6 and 9 mos. It took months of testing--daughter also slow
w/developmental milestones. Rec one dx of eosinophilic esophagitis
http://heartburn.about.com/b/a/066014.htm . Wound up putting a PEG in.
Eventually found daughter had triple X syndrome,
http://www.aaa.dk/TURNER/ENGELSK/TRIEN.HTM and mild cerebral palsy. It
took almost two years to find this. Like your mom, this friend was
criticized for breastfeeding. We are sure it was mom's nurture and
breastmilk that allowed this baby to do as well as she has.
LMK if you'd like me to put you in touch w/my friend. Feel free to email me
off-list. I would scream from the rooftop that breastfeeding has not
worsened this baby's condition; it has protected her from worse problems!
HTH,
Anna Swisher, MBA, IBCLC
