Dear Naomi,
I absolutely agree with you on parent's right of refusal when it comes to
various procedures. And I'm 100% behind the assistance of a doula as I am a
doula myself. But I believe in evidence-based practice and in providing my
clients with evidence, if there is any, on the pros and cons of any medical
procedure.
So that's what I'm asking for---does anyone know of any research on the
impact of these MANDATORY postpartum injections of pitocin for every woman. Of
course, they tell the mothers it is so they won't bleed to death (honestly,
that's what they are told). I am certainly aware of the use of pitocin in reducing
postpartum bleeding but not every woman should need it.
