Susan:

I will second Mary's response. I am a trained birth doula, a certified
postpartum doula and lactation consultant in training. Doulas are wonderful
bridges between moms and lactation consultants. One of the most valuable
relationships I have is with an IBCLC. She has helped every one of my postpartum
clients in some way, and I depend on her for help when I hit my doula "boundary."

I think the key here is that LC's need to help doulas learn to use them as
resources, connect with them, let them know their services and when they should
refer. If this happens, we can avoid situations that cause moms difficulty.
It's possible, and so valuable. Please don't let one bad experience define
your relationship with all doulas.

just my two cents...
