RE: BF with newly diagnosed breast CA
I am searching for all info to assist a 34 yr old primip who has succesfully been bf for 6 mos. A breast cyst occured after multiple I&D of this cyst, excision was recommended for reoccurrence. The diagnosis of malignancy has been determined and the pt is immediately to begin f/u. She was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma Grade III. Her appointment is in 2 weeks with Dana Faber. The baby has continued through this investigation to Bf . The present surgeon did not know if it is "OK" to continue Breastfeeding. Also whether frozen milk pumped from this breast is Ok. It has had a little blood in it since surgery, she is naturally panicked with questions. Now we seek any and all literature on this unexpected Diagnosis. She expects to wean after the appointment, but is it wise to continue breastfeed till then?? My partners & I have thankfully never encounterd this in our practice. Any comments appreciated
Thank You
