Karen had a dialogue with someone:

Skin-to-skin was part of the protocol.

Yea -- one of the best transitional devices and free!

On the news last night (Chicago-land) and again in the Tribune today was a
story about a little girl at one of our local hospitals who was delivered at 27
weeks. Mom had lupus and baby was not growing, so the decision was made to
take her by C/Section -- she weighed 10.8 ounces at birth -- the third smallest
baby in the U.S. to survive. She was born in January, and has already gained 9
ounces and is doing quite well. Mom has been able to hold her skin to skin
-- that was brought out on the news and in the paper. There was also an
editorial by John Kass who had twin boys, one of whom wasn't doing well (sounded as
though he may have had NEC at one point). Early on, when his wife was still
bedridden (C/Section?) he was given his little boy for kangarooing -- the
thrill of holding his baby on his chest for a number of hours was so evident in his
editorial. He had a great discussion about kangaroo care with a NICU nurse
which was also reported. All in all, very satisfying and a great boon for
those of us promoting it.
