This is very very scary for the mother and family. What I would want to know
is what are the chances of the mother contracting HIV -> AIDS from a
needlestick of such a patient (AIDS pt). The mother has immediately begun
medication prophylaxis. She may never convert to HIV positive. If the odds
are extremely low then she may choose to cont. bf w/ close f/u. If she
choose to cont. bf, perhaps the baby could receive prophylaxis meds as well.
I don't think she would receive much support for even considering this but
it is an option.
