In addition to the usual routes of metabolism for glucose, milk
production offers one additional elimination route for blood glucose than
a pregnant or a non-lactating diabetic would have. Glucose is used for
conversion to lactose and galactose. Information is found in my trusty
old 2nd edition of Breastfeeding and Human Lactation, p.353-354, which
will have to do till I can get the new edition!
