Dear Fellow Lactnetters,
Some of you will remember a quote from Representative Graves from Oklahoma regarding the radical feminists who believe in "letting it all hang out to breastfeed" and he recommended modest breastfeeding and covering with a blanket. I was offended my his statement and sent him and email regarding my concerns about women being afraid they are not modest enough or trying to cover up with a blanket outside in the heat of summer and women with many children who often need to feed while accompanying other older siblings to their events. I also told him that I am not a feminist--the 'feminist' movement went on before my birth. I support breastfeeding whenever and however is necessary to get the job done.
He wrote back a lovely apology and discussed his belief in breastfeeding and his joy in knowing that his own children and grandchildren were breastfed and that he didn't mean to put public breastfeeding in a bad light. It was nice of him to write back personally. I just wanted to share this with you all.
Sincerely,
Anne Nans, RN/IBCLC

Julian Huxley, a famous scientist, said to his students around 1900: "During the next century, half of what we know now will be proven wrong. Unfortunately, we don't know which half."
