Regarding Goat's Rue:
While galactogue properties of Goat's Rue were reported in the 1960's in
Germany, toxic properties of this plant are well known. Components of
Goat's Rue inhibit platelet aggregation and compromise respiratory function
and inhibit bacterial growth. Animal studies indicate that sensitivity
varies DRAMATICALY from one animal to another. Some sheep are severely
poisoned with small doses of plant extracts while others are not. Animal
deaths from Goat's Rue consumption occur rarely, but regularly. The
official spelling of the plant is Galega officinales (two fs). Entering
this term in pub med yields two pages of references.
Finally, we do not know what components of the plant are transfered into the
milk, and the baby could be far more susceptable to poisoning than the
mother.
