Could also be an anxiety issue. PPD symptoms (as described in such literature as CT Beck) and anxiety symptoms (per DSM IV) can be very similar.
A recent MOT described similar symptoms as per the mom Donna is working with and, after my encouraging her husband to "push" the OB to refer for a stat psych eval, the psychiatrist diagnosed an anxiety disorder. Rather than prescribe a long-term course of an SSRI, the psychiatrist -- who was super about mom's desire for ongoing BF, prescribed an anti-anxiety med on a short-term basis. In this case it worked like a charm. Within 1-2 weeks, the symptoms diminished and the MOT went off the med -- and she's happily BFing her now 6-month old twins.
I learned a lot from this case re: BF with PPD vs. concern with carefully watched anti-anxiety med (for both mom and babies).
