Hello and Happy New Year! I am posting with a question: Of those of you in hospitals, what (if any) is your protocol for implementing finger feeding as opposed to other methods for babies requiring supplements? What criteria makes you choose finger feeds, what parameters are there for using that method, what is the usual duration, what if any pumping regime is paired with it, WHO teaches it to the mom / parents, what follow up is required, etc.?? Any feedback would be appreciated; we are looking to give information to some local professionals about how that method ought to be used in hospital.... feedback regarding who makes the decisions as to method and who teaches it to parents (is it LC, floor nurse, etc.) especially appreciated. Thanks!!!!!
Esther Friedman, IBCLC, RLC, MS
