This is a bit off topic so please respond to me privately.

I'm currently writing an article to be used by adoptive parents to help educate their health and other child care professionals on the special needs of post-institutionalised children.

It is relatively common for children cared for in institutions to be kept solely on bottle feeds well beyond what would normally be the case (even to 18 months or more). The children therefore often have feeding issues finding it difficult to eat solid foods. Some of the issues are sensory intergration ones (problems with textures etc) but also to do with having an overactive gag reflex and not having the muscles to eat solid food (infantile orofacial function?). I'm wondering if anyone here could tell me to whom such children should be referred for assistance? Speech pathologist? OT? and what the therapy to treat such problems would be called?

Thanks very much.
