I have permission/request from mom I'm working with to post the following
question. Her baby son, now 7 wks old, has been on propholactic antibiotic
(amoxicillin) since day 4 due to an asymptomatic diagnosis of hydronephrosis; the
way she explained it to me is that his condition was initially picked up by
ultrasound in utero, after birth he was seen by a pediatric urologist who said
his hydronephrosis did not require surgery but to prevent a sepsis workup should
he develop fever due to urine stasis in the kidney, he needed to be on low
dose antibiotic until 3 mos.

She is concerned about what the antibiotic use has/is doing to his GI tract.
He is breastfed with small amount of supplementation of ABM (average of 3 oz
every 1-2 days) because he has difficulty feeding (breast or bottle) possible
marginal tongue tie or low oral tone, espec tongue function (in process of
eval). I've suggested she ask her ped about using infant strength
acidopholis/bifidis and said I'd see if anyone on LN has experience with this or references
for same.

Thank you in advance. I do plan as soon as I'm able to research more on
hydronephrosis myself.
