Actually, as I recall the origianl research found that failure to breastfeed
and smoking in the family were the main causes of SIDS, sleeping position
was down on the list (I'm not sure if it was even #3) The back to sleep to
prevent SIDS push came about because sleep position could be changed and
wouldn't make anyone feel quilty like failure to breastfeed and smoking!
So this media manipulation isn't anything new. ARRRGH!
