Thanks to all for your help and advice with my client who had mastitis 5
times in as many weeks. I passed the info e-mailed to me privately onto the Dr.
in charge. This mom has been in the hospital for one week /one day now.
The Biopsy was negative for cancer. She pumped every 3 hours for 20 minutes
and StILL the mastitis returned, while on IV antibiotics (arghhh) she ended up
in the OR to drain an abcess which they then had to pack and add another
antibiotic. Still she pumped and the baby has been getting the EBM. FINALLY they
cultured the wound (Staph) and the milk (no results) and brought in a
Infectious Disease Specalist. What a nightmare. she is still pumping around the
clock but with the addition of a 3rd antibiotic, I am not sure the baby is
getting this milk. Her breasts are so sensitive that they won't even let her
begin the weaning process yet (pumping 1 - 2 minutes less every other feed).
I'm not sure how savvy the Infectious Disese specialist is with breastfeeding.
The other Dr. is pro BFing but really wants her to wean and the mom has HAD
IT, I can't really blame her, she has been thru it. Her baby has had almost 8
weeks of BM only, that's a better start than lots of babies get.

The mom just wants to get home to her baby. Now they are talking pic-line
for the antibiotics . I suggested she just start wheeling and dealing and
agree to come 2x/day for the AB's in the line they have in now.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My other clients are doing much better although 2 who live close to each
other seem to be in a milk sucking vortex as they both have supply issues that are
very slow in improving!! My new client from Denmark has milk everywhere!!!
As do the clients from East India and Turkey.. funny, they all have family
here from 'home' tending to them..... It takes a village
