Dear Friends:
Laurie describes a lovely situation where the mother and baby found each
other after the LC gave some gentle guidance.
I see this story as keeping the baby in the restaurant. All the LC
recommendations had the intention of interesting the baby, encouraging the mother,
within that lovely 'watchful waiting' framework.
The problem here was that the baby would have been fed formula if
breastfeeding hadn't been initiated. This puts a subtle pressure on everybody (except
the baby).
I think Laurie did a splendid job. There was no forcing, no R.A.M.'ing,
no jump to technology.
    warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI
