I totally agree. What a condescending thing to say to a mom,
suggesting that not only is her baby not thriving, but has never been
satisfied in his life w/what she has fed him! It makes me crazy that a
HP has the power to make someone who is doing a great job of mothering
feel so terrible about her choices.
My children are all grown now. My ped was with us through thick and
thin (meningitis, deafness, asthma attacks....fatal attraction/bipolar
difficulties w/my oldest son's ex-girlfriend). We disagreed about quite a
bit over the years....vitamin supplements, fluoride drops, not
starting solids until the baby was 6-8 mths old, bed sharing...etc.
But, he respected me and I him. He understood that I made the choices
that I did for MY family. And he complimented me on what a wonderful
mom I was, caring, intelligent and capable. I can't begin to tell you
what that meant to me as a mom. He approached my children w/humor and
respect and I will be forever grateful for his help and support in
raising my family.
I hope this mom (and all moms) find a supportive and respectful doctor
to travel along with them through their parenting journey.
Ellen
