I wanted to fill everyone in on some good outcomes I've had in the last few
weeks. I wrote a few weeks ago about 3 moms that where having difficulty
for various reasons but all where pumping and bottle feeding. Well, time
has helped all these little babies. One mom had severe inverted nipples,
that got very sore, mom had low milk supply etc, etc. Despite all the
problems this mother never got discouraged. Her and her little baby
continue, nursing with a shield, very little milk transferred, mom pumps
after most feedings and bottle feeds as well... how she gets anything done
is beyond me. She says this has been the best experience she has ever had.
She and her baby are happy. My other mother with very large nipples and
little baby, pumped and bottle fed for three weeks... went to one La Leache
meeting, started nursing her now larger baby that eve... very happy. The
third mother whose small 36 week infant, who got very jaundiced, lost weight
etc... and they ended up pumping and bottle feeding. They continued until
just last week, when the mom started nursing some, came in for a little help
and her little baby took about 2 ounces at breast. They're happy! So,
persistence, keeping the milk supply intact, and regular lactation help,
plus encouragement from family and LLL and a tincture of time will help even
the most difficult situations. Thanks for all the ideas you shared.
