Rachel says,
******************************************

I don't think it is coincidence that this article
comes on the eve of the launching of the ad campaign. This is exactly what we
expected, but it doesn't mean that Dr. Sanghavi's experience is not real.
Learning that he and the mother took turns feeding the baby the first night
merely adds weight to the argument that education on BF needs to be
strengthened in medical school (and practically everywhere else).
******************************************
Be prepared. I think this little story is just the tip of the iceberg. I
expect to see much, much more negative diatribe leveled against breastfeeding
within the next couple of months. How many of you remember the July 22, 1994
story by Kevin Hellicker in the Wall Street Journal about the hundreds of
breastfed babies becoming seriously ill and in danger of dying from dehydration --
JUST BEFORE World Breastfeeding Week which was August 1-7? For a short time,
breastfeeding rates dropped. It isn't coincidence that there are often
negative articles that come out in July -- we can practically bank on it. Why is the
"hip docs" book with it's nastiness about IBCLCs suddenly being promoted --
just before IBCLC Day?

So, if I were a betting LC, which I'm not, I'd put money on a BIG story --
something in which a breastfeeding baby is maimed for life -- or dies -- or
something -- just before the Ad Campaign breaks.

Sharpen those computer keyboards -- I suspect we are going to be busy over
the next few months.
