Dear friends,

I have searched the archives, but can't find anything newer than several
years ago. Does anyone know anything about the safety of the anti-viral flu
medications in breastfeeding mothers? They are: Symmetrel (amantadine),
Flumadine (rimantadine), Relenza (zanamivir), and Tamiflu (oseltamivir).

I know these are typically elective, but the mother in question has asthma
and when she gets the flu, it can last for 4-6 weeks! She is nursing a 20
month old. FWIW, she had the flu shot :-(

Please copy to my personal address, [log in to unmask] , so that I
get the info as soon as possible, since these drugs must be taken within 48
hours of the onset of symptoms to be effective.

Thanks so much,
Melanie Young
