Thank you, Naomi! Although this may seem OT for Lactnet, I don't think it is, as I mainly work with so-called high-risk MOT/MOM and many have experienced bed rest during their pregnancies. Strict and/or prolonged pregnancy bedrest can have a profound effect on initiating or maintaining breastfeeding related its evidence-based physical or emotional consequences.
For others on the list who work with a lot of high-risk mothers, during or after pregnancy, I would strongly urge you to check the work of Judy Maloni, RN, PhD, FAAN. She is to pregnancy bed rest research what Paula Meier is to premie feeding research!
Judy's web sites are: http://fpb.cwru.edu/Research/Faculty/Maternal%20Child/Maloni.htm
www.fpb.cwru.edu/bedrest
Abstracts re: her articles are available at: http://fpb.cwru.edu/bedrest/caregivers/maloni.html
For those working with expectant mothers of twins, for whom bed rest is often "prescribed" whether there are related symptoms (preterm labor, PIH, cervical change) or not: http://www.update-software.com/abstracts/ab000110.htm
or re: "prescribed" for suspected fetal growth restriction: http://www.update-software.com/abstracts/AB000034.htm
Cochrane also has protocols re: Bed rest during pregnancy for preventing miscarriage (Cochrane Protocol)
Bed rest in singleton pregnancies for preventing preterm birth (Cochrane Protocol)
Bed rest with or without hospitalisation for hypertension during pregnancy (Cochrane Protocol)
