Pat in NJ says,

People seem to forget that 40-45 years ago we routinely did not feed babies
for 18-24 hours without major problems. Then when we finally let them at
the breast after a trial with D5W it was for a grand 3 minutes each side for
first 24 hours. We forget that babies are resilient, and survive well, in
spite of the stupid things we do to them!

I'd be willing to wager that anyone on the list, unless they were born at
home or in a country that is a bit more enlightened than the US of A, that is
over -- oh -- 35, weren't fed for the first 24 hours of life. I tell moms this,
and then remind them that probably Bill Gates wasn't given anything for 24
hours and he's worth a gazillion dollars.....

So then one mom posited that perhaps if she didn't feed her baby for 24
hours, she'd be worth a gazillion $$$ too! I do like moms with a sense of humor.

It does help them to relax a bit if the baby isn't nursing exactly on the
hospital/nurses' schedule of every three hours for 15 minutes on each side.
