Her baby was 7-6 at birth and 6-11 at discharge on day 2. Two days
following discharge baby was weighed at 6-11. On assessment baby had no
signs of dehydration. Mom states baby has plenty of wet diapers, but no
stools. She cannot hear baby swallow. Baby's weight dropped 2 ounces 3 days
later.
Baby still having plenty of wet diapers. Mom's breasts were firm.

Have seen the "plenty wets but no/occasional stools" when a baby is able to
ingest enough milk to maintain hydration but not enough calories to facilitate
weight gain.

How many times in 24 hours has baby been breastfeeding? How long does baby's
typical breastfeeding last? Has anyone done pre-/post-feeding weights to see
approximately how much milk baby is transferring? Has baby been assessed for
mechanical issues, such as tongue-tie that may interfere with ability to
transfer milk?

Were mother's breasts firm as per signs of copious production, milk stasis
and engorgement, "meaty," etc.? Did anyone do a 24-hour diet recall re: mother?
Would think a lacto-ovo vegetarian should be all right if diet is balanced
and adequate. Has mother's thyroid been checked?

Sorry, more questions than answers came to mind...

Karen
