I was at Kitty's talk at LLLI, but I have not found that mothers who
have had reduction mammaplasty have a problem with pumping, other than
perhaps some discomfort if they have a lot of scar tissue.
One mother in my practice who had a reduction found the Whittlestone
pump to be most comfortable for her, though she needed to pump much
longer with that pump than with the other major brands to obtain milk.
It was not clear on the basis of how many cases Kitty's recommendations
were made. I have seen many BFAR women, and not had one bleed from
pumping. Perhaps we should be looking in more detail at her case(s) and
see what predisposing or confounding factors may be at play.
