I look forward to the day when the default is that Moms breastfeed and
we don't even have to ask at all. Some places in the western world, that's
the case.
 I can dream can't I? >>

Naomi wrote above about breastfeeding as the default. We can potentially
start today by simply asking if the mom has any questions or concerns about
feeding her baby, with the phrase continuing as " do you have anything specific
about breastfeeding that you are wondering about/need clarified," etc?
Examples:
" Do you have any particular questions about feeding your baby? anything
about breastfeeding you were wondering about or concerned about?..."
"A lot of new moms have questions of all kinds about being a mother, do you
have any feeding questions I could help you with, anything about breastfeeding
you would like answered?" ...
"As a nurse/lactation consultant ( fill in the blank), I always want to help
moms and babies to have a normal healthy start in life, is there anything
about birth, or breastfeeding you would like to talk about?..."
Depending on the mom's response, and the HCPs sense of things, information
can be shared as needed, indicated by the mom's openness to the discussion. Does
it help ( for those who see moms prenatally or right after birth) to ask as
if breastfeeding is just normal feeding, to talk about feeding and let the
mother know feeding usually means breastfeeding...?
Just musing again,
