Unfortunately, in a nuclear family culture, "plastic parenting" takes the place of extended family members to help as extra arms at times. (In my mind, "plastic parenting" is the overuse/abuse of of plastic baby containers -- seats, strollers, cribs, etc.) A little may help sanity as new parents adapt to the 24/7, but there is a difference between "use" and "overuse/abuse." I would think much of the day in a swing at the sitter's is abuse. What in the world are the parents paying to have someone just plop their baby in a swing for hours on end? It's waaay too much.
