The medication contains a chemical called malathion.
Malathion is not a friendly pesticide and has been greatly limited lately in
it's distribution (especially among professional exterminators).
Here is a pretty informative page:
http://www.chem-tox.com/malathion/research/
However, that said....
Malathion has been widely used for so long, that one-time use would probably
not markedly increase the risk for this dyad. Chances are they are already so
exposed that this small dose would not make a significant difference.
This pdf article will give you an idea of the prevalence of this chemical:
http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/op/malathion/rev_ore.pdf

For future reference, there is a natural product called Lice Arrest, which is
very effective, without the insecticides...

Although I am from a long line of exterminators (grandfather and his brother,
Uncle and Cousin, I even worked the family business for a while in college),
I have no personal interest in either of these products.
