yes - and I also worry that people who are determined to can distort this is
"WE NEED BETTER FORMULAS [quick get more breast milk to study]!" instead of,
"we need more breastfeeding!". how about if we say, "artifical feeding
causes illness"?
"breastmilk substitutes cause [or increase] illness"
this also leaves room for those who are breastmilk-feeding.
I saw a website geared towards natural health which had a "recipe" for
homemade formula. there were at least 25 ingredients, very precise
measurements and complicated preparation. what was implicit was the fact
that it would be SO HARD to try to make a breastmilk substitute that
breastfeeding would be far far easier.
speaking of homemade fomulae, I ran into a woman who I knew had been formula
feeding her second child (never put either baby to breast) with great
difficulty - reflux, allergy, colic, etc. she told me that when he was just
a few months old they finally started giving him straight soy milk! she said
that was the only thing he would tolerate, so she fed him that. adult soy
milk. she never thought to maybe nurse the baby (!) - in fact, early on she
expressed relief that she *wasn't* nursing since he was such a difficult
feeder. people will believe what they want to, it seems.
