I got a call today from a mom with a one year old (who was born at 25 wks. gestation) and who is still nursing frequently. The mom would now like to get a tattoo and is concerned if the dyes will somehow reach her baby.
None of my reference books address this at all. A search of Lactnet archives shows that people seem to believe it is generallly okay provided clean instruments are used. I also did a general web search. I could not come up with anything research based. Is there anything out there?
I told the mom I would call her back after I had done some research.
I am so surprised that my new Breastfeeding Answer Book does not address this, as tattooing is popular with so many younger women.
