I also had an RD who works here just get back
from the national ADA meeting in San Antonio. She attended the session
on infant formula and reports that a woman with MD, RD and IBCLC after
her name told them about studies that show that the formula with the
DHA/AA does improve visual acuity and brain development. I prefer to
believe Marsha,...
My guess is that these new formulas haven't been around long enough to
make any convincing statements about visual acuity or brain
development. We know so little about all of this that I'm not even sure
we know how to ask the right questions to determine whether new fangled
infant formulas make a difference. For example, did the speaker say
improves visual acuity and brain development over what? what were they
comparing it to? How big were the studies, how long did they measure?
How did they control for the many factors that play into these
phenomena? Did she offer any references so we can look at the studies
ourselves? And of course, who sponsored the research?
