A fellow nurse told me about a client of hers that was not able to
breastfeed her first baby because there were no openings in her nipple.
Apparently she had produced milk and was engorged after birth but no milk
at all, even drops, came out.
The engorgement resolved with cabbage and compresses.
Afterwards she was sent to a surgeon who checked her breast without an
ultrasound or mameograph and said the situation can be corrected, though
the surgery is expensive, so she shouldn't do it, because the medical
insurance wouldn't cover it.
I personally have not seen this woman and I know she is interested is
having another baby and of course BF.
Has anyone heard or seen anything like this.
What can be done? I am asssuming she should have some kind of ultrasound
to see if the lactiferous sinuses are connected to the nipple opening?
