HI Barbara,
I was at a conference a few years back and Dr. Evelyn Jaine was speaking.
She said she recommends shields for long and large nipples, which babies are
having difficulties accommodating. When I asked her how does this work when the
nipple is larger than the shield she said that the nipple is just stuffed
inside.
Have you ever tried this? Heard of this or feel it would work? The nipple
is quite capable of being stretched, squished and manipulated. I could
understand how Dr. Jaine came to this recommendation. The other place I see this is
the preemie, where I am using the small shield and mom's larger nipple is
being squished inside it.
Thanks,
Ann Perry RN, IBCLC
