Winnie, you are so right. I wish I could go tell all of our bottle feeding
moms to breastfeed. We're going on 48 hours without power (the hospital
just had it restored at 6pm). The residents are being told not to drink the
water. I would not want to be bottle feeding at a time like this.

As a side note, I was happy to have a Medela antibacterial wipe to clean
some breastpump parts this am.

Subject: hurricane and other disasters

Glad you survived the hurricane, Barb. I hope the rest of you from
the East Cost fared well also. Between the blackout and now the
hurricane, I have current referral points when I talk in class about
good reasons to breastfeed. The story of the young couple and their
baby (who were local) who were snowbound in Nevada several years
back is getting out of date and most new parents never heard of it.
(Here, tornadoes and blizzards are the potential weather
disasters.) While we certainly don't want to live our lives in fear
of such disasters, the potential is one more reason for
breastfeeding. As long as mom and baby are together, it doesn't
matter if their home is damaged or even destroyed. Nursing moms
don't have to worry about whether or not they have power available.

Winnie
