It was neat to pass by the LLL booth at the International Festival in Modesto
this weekend. I am surrounded by "sling mommas" at my son's school as well.
I haven't been posting much lately as I have been consumed by hopefully a
"once in a lifetime case" of Munchausen by Proxy (Factitious Illness of
Childhood). This case has become part of my daily nightmare since 9/1/03. You cannot
imagine how thrilled I am these days to greet every new nursing family in my
practice. I am also still busy with other community activities.
The best news is that November 15th, I open my own pediatric office (have
been renting from another pediatrician in a cramped and not Baby Friendly place).
It is airy and will look like a Caribbean village (my own design). The best
part is that it is a block and a half from my son's school (Fremont Open Plan
Charter program), next to a parent participation cooperative preschool, a
junior high and walking distance to the local junior college. Giving my official
notice on October 15th to leave my current office (and CALL GROUP). I have
also formed a call group with two other women pediatricians with young children
(they are a bit closer to my philosophy of call and time off).
Thrilled that I can have Baby (and Child and Adolescent) Friendly office of
my very own. All three of us (my two medical assistants and I) are Bilingual
English/Spanish. My practice is a mix of insurances (50% Medi-Cal and Healthy
Families) and ethnicities (Stanislaus County is very eclectic).
All this and celebrated my 46th birthday on October 3rd (yes, I know I am a
spring chicken-but had a "What not to Wear" makeover by two dear friends as
well). Visualize short Black woman with red highlights in hair and finger and
toenails. Great timing as I will be presenting at the San Joachin County Black
Infant Health Symposium on SIDS (called "Our Babies are Dying) on October
17th. Y'all know what my message will be :)....
