Hello all,
I am a very new (2003) non RN IBCLC, and so am more proof that it CAN be done; lots of networking and volunteering and snapping up every possible educational opportunity can eventually get you there!
I have also been continually frustrated with the lack of acceptance in hospital settings without that "magic RN"; I know there are PT, OT, respiratory therapists, phlebotomists, etc. in direct patient care every day and I will look on it as a sign that our profession is TRULY being recognized as valid when we are recognized as a valuable team member across all medical settings, including hospitals, just as those professions I mentioned above. Just my opinion.....
Esther Friedman, IBCLC, RLC
