Hi All
I would appreciate some help with this scenario
Mother now 14 days postpartum, NVD weight 3360gms - never sucessfully latched at breast, so using nipple shield. Mum has flat nipples, good milk supply. Visited yesterday Mum in tears not enjoying breastfeeding at all. Dosent feel she is bonding with baby. baby is fussy and not settled when feeding at the breast. Baby screams and fights when going to the breast and dosent settle to feed. so Mum has is now giving EBM top-ups approx 80 - 100mls after each b/f attempt. baby has always slept up to 3 hours after a feed regardless. I have noticed that the baby purses her lips, and dosent open wide to go to the breast. Baby has regained birth weight.
Has anyone got any words of wisdom. Im not sure how far to push this mum in view of her statement of not bonding with her baby. she had skin to skin for a couple of hours yesterday.
Sincerely
June Nicholls
