I am interested in knowing how many people have used both the 100 and
200 mg/day regimen for Diflucan, and if my colleagues on Lactnet notice
a difference in effectiveness related to the dose.
I propose an unscientific survey in determining the lowest effective
dose, according to my colleagues' experience. For the record, I have
always recommended 200 mg/day to doctors when asked; doctors have
chosen to accept this recommendation and we all (patients, doctors, and
I) have been satisfied with the results, almost universally w/in 2
weeks.
If anyone consistently recommends a lower dose at the present time, and
consistently finds it successfully treats Candidiasis of the
nipple/ducts after a 2-week course, I would like to know. (I do expect
some positive responses, but am uncertain how many.)
If anyone has tried the lower dose and found it NOT to be as effective
as the 200 mg/day regimen, I would like to know.
If you currently recommend 200 mg/day, I would like to know.
Is anyone seeing a necessity for using more than 200 mg/day very often?
How about a course longer than 14 days?
I do believe in the principle of the lowest possible effective dose.
If you reply to this question on the list, please cc:
[log in to unmask] (I will be away from my computer but my sons will
forward any responses to me). Please remember this is an unscientific
survey (no random sampling, not unbiased, etc.), but I feel your
responses will be very enlightening nonetheless. It is understood that
most of my colleagues on this list do not have prescriptive authority
but only make recommendations to those who do.
Yours in milk,
Arly Helm, MS, IBCLC
