A few years ago I received an article sent to the midwives' journal from a
mother who was a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. She had successfully
and uneventfully BF her 2 or 3 daughters. Her last child was a son and she
had big problems accepting his closeness to her breasts. She wrote about
her struggle to separate the baby from her memory of her male abuser, and
she did succeed and was very proud of it.
So if you meet a woman who is having unexplained difficulty being close to a
child of a different gender to her previous children, you might want to
explore this with her, if the situation allows.
