Two of us are starting a lactation department in our women's hospital. We are
L&D nurses who took our exam in July. I wear street clothes with a lab jacket
because I was criticized in the beginning for not taking labor patients when
I appeared in scrubs like the rest of the staff. I find that wearing
comfortable street clothes separates me from the labor nurses and patients seem to
understand that I'm not there to adjust their pitocin. This is working for me now,
I'll let you know how it goes. I have heard very little muttering since I
changed my work clothing.
