Hello Kirsten,

Yes, I believe it is true that extra crying makes the blood flow.  I was at
a pedi office as a Mom once when the distraught nurse came running out
trying to call an ambulance by dialing "411" (for those not in US, the
correct is 911) I stuck my head in and asked the Pedi (I knew her well) if
I could help.  She told me to glove up, quick.
Situation: 5 day old male bleeding out from circumcision, multiple
bruising, everywhere.  All I could do was put my finger in his mouth to
suck, which he did, and this helped slow the bleeding rate. (it turned out
the Vit K had worn off and he had a very unexpected rare form of hemophilia)
That's not to say it's OK to refuse to comfort a crying baby, just an
answer to your question as to whether or not calming slows down the flow of
blood.
