Hi Virginia,
In response to your request. Did the mother have delay of breastfeeding after
surgery?
It might be of some assistance to begin, if not already done so some suck
training.
Manuel expression is great, but possibly if she is behind she might need a
hospital grade electric. I use a pattern that has assisted my moms in the past
(1).breastfeed first,(2.) pump with hospital grade pump allowing the skin to
skin contact(.3) pump using a technique of massage, stroke shake, pump for 7
minutes, repeat massage stroke, shake, pump 5 minutes, repeat massage stroke
shake pump for 3 minutes.
If possible she should pump at least every 3 hours.and pumping both breasts
simultaneously appears to be better (if possible)
I know this is stressful, however if she is behind this might assist to
establish a supply while the latch is being worked on.
