Hi, Andrea: There are charts listing the various components of human milk
vs other mammalian milks, including milk sugar content and protein
content. I think your staff is confusing protein and carbs. Cow milk is
much higher in protein content than sugar because cows need protein to
build muscle mass as opposed to humans who need a milk with a higher sugar
content to develop the brain and CNS. Yes, protein is broken down to
sugars during the digestion process which means the blood sugar rise is
slower and more consistent than a jolt of sugar, but isn't that what we
want? To quickly raise blood sugar levels in the instance of the baby who
is having trouble maintaining his blood sugar? I'm assuming that
underlying medical reasons have been ruled out. I would think frequent
feeds of human milk would go a long way towards helping this baby
establish/maintain normal human physiologic processes.
