>I'm curious -- for those of you outside of the U.S <> does the mother/baby
have a CHART in which pertinent
information is documented?<
Here in the UK, the mother has a 'red book' or 'child health record' which
is a record of all involvment with the child from 10 days (when care
passesfrom the midwife to the health visitor) to 5 years. The mum has it
and presents it to anyone she consults (sometimes even volunteers, though I
dont' think we would ever write in it). It includes weight charts, which is
why, through my phd research, I am acutely aware of it. I will have LOTS to
say about the red book in my phd. It is a highly interesting document.
When it was brought in it was evaluated in various ways, like do mothers
lose it (no), who fills it in (health visitors, sometimes GPs). To me there
are more interesting questions, like what effect does it have on a mother to
walk around with the child weight chart.....some women get their baby
weighed weekly!!!!! They understand their baby's health through the lens of
the centile chart!!!!!!!
