 Hi Kika

It must make it so much harder to initiate breastfeeding successfully
when your c-section mothers are separated from their babies for so
long.Ours are separated for a couple of ours or more, which is too long
too.Hopefully our policy will change. It is hard though(not enough
staff, etc.)to bring about change, but I know others have done it.

We have a policy in the hospital where I work ,that you have to have your
baby in the cot when you are out of the room too,for the same reasons ;&
also incase someone runs into them or anything that may cause them to drop
their baby & sue us.

At the private hospital where I work ,some peds do checks in room & some
in nursery.Unfortunately they have a "Well baby nursery" at night .At the
public hospital where I work we have NO nursery on the ward for the
babies.Apparently, some of the private patients that come to us can't
understand why we dont have a nursery for their baby to go at
night.Nurseries(other than for sick/very prem babes(we have 35/40 on the
ward with mum)are bad news for breastfeeding, mums & babies.I believed this
before, but now I know without he slightest doubt in my mind, that this is
critical not just to breastfeeding success, but for bonding too(Thanks Nils
Bergman).
