In 'A guide to effective care in pregnancy and childbirth' (ISBN
0-19-263173-x) the chapter on preparing for induction of labor opens thusly:
'The decision to bring pregnancy to an end before the spontaneous onset of
labor is one of the most drastic ways of intervening in the natural process
of pregnancy and childbirth.' It goes on to note the lack of good research
into the indications for induction of labor, since most of the research has
been done to compare various methods of induction instead.
I second Kathleen Bruce's comment. It should not be the manager trying to
defend the archaic practice of spontaneous onset of labor. It should be the
promoters of this drastic intervention who should be pinned to the wall
until they can come up with one good reason to evict a baby from the womb
before its time in the lack of any clear medical indication. They need to
show it doesn't harm mothers OR babies. While they are at it maybe someone
should ask for a cost analysis too.

to find their way out anyway
