Oddly enough, I am surprised by the number of mothers in minimum-wage
jobs (Dunkin Donuts springs to mind) who tell me as early as late
pregnancy that their employer is already planning to allow time and place
for pumping breaks, while moms in higher-paying jobs (a pediatric clinic
assistant and lawyers' office secretary spring to mind) report that they
are too frightened or uncomfortable to ask for breaks to pump.
Go figure!
Sincerely,
Elaine Mazgelis, RD, IBCLC
