How could you possibly have done all that in 8 hours and had time to
observe,assess,
make plans and document, to say nothing about teaching - impossible!
Yesterday my coworker saw 5-6 moms in 4 hours; I saw 6, handled at least 6
phone calls and did 3 complex outpatients in 8 supposed hours.
We have usually 1.5-2 people working each day, for about 300 births a month,
and about
an 85% initiation rate for bf, and we average 2 outpatients a day, (range
0-6) It's a
rare day I'm not moving top speed - we could really use more FTEs in the
dept.
Our manager does reality checks by working .1 FTE on the floor as an LC.

Today I saw 26 mother baby pairs in 8 hours.
My boss wants to have as many references as
possible about what other LC's do at their hospitals. Could you please email
me with the number of patients you see and the number of hours you work and
how many LC's you have on the floor each day. Anyone fight this battle and
win? Thanks, Judith IBCLC
