Hi Catherine and others,
Living in California, with last years' potential of rolling blackouts and earthquackes, I always do mention in classes and meetings the disadvantage
of formula feeding in emergencies! I also tell mothers who come and rent a Lactina how they can still use the pump without power: have your
partner or an old enough child help with pumping by moving the white/yellow piston part. It may be helpful if the tubes are guided under the
mothers' arms and the "human" pump is at the mothers back. If a mother manages to hold the falnges with one arm, maybe with the help of the
edge of a table, she can move the piston herself (tried it five years ago when I needed to pump and my rental was return to the hospital).
