I was also not comfortable with the "curled around baby" co-sleeping
position. Although I believed in co-sleeping, I found it hard to do and did not
really give in to it until my second child insisted on it. With my first, even if
I fell asleep nursing her in bed, I always eventually woke up and felt the
need to put her back in the crib. Co-sleeping with my son, he slept between my
husband and me and I could not sleep until I turned around with my back to him.
I agree with the person who posted on this that some of us (especially those
of us who have chronic insomnia!) are conditioned this way by lack of early
co-sleeping. I think for this reason it is difficult for many in our culture
Thus the popularity of the bedside co-sleepers. Not ideal, but a big boon to
those who really can't co-sleep more closely. And for those who truly feel
unsafe co-sleeping. Miriam
